Art and Design along the Cybersilk Highway:

I am currently designing rugs in collaboration with GOODWEAVE and  the World Fair Trade Organization.

My artwork reflects thoughts on consciousness, myths and universal symbols. I began making textile designs and rugs after realizing that my artwork had much in common with traditional Oriental and Tibetan rugs. I am driven to make thoughts visible through visual narrative, similar to rug weaving cultures around the world. Our life is a reflection of our consciousness and textiles and rugs are a reflection of the lives of the people who make them and those who use them. Historically textiles and rugs have held documentation of man’s achievements and adventures. Similar to the Bayeux Tapestry, the rugs created now reflect the state of the world at a moment in time. Every textile design starts as a painting. Next, I digitally manipulate the painting into a pattern for the rug. My artwork aims to reduce thought to a symbol and I have found that these symbols are not just my symbols – they are universal symbols.

Artwork Narrative History:

Lotus Series (2001 - 2011)The world transitions everyday within the eternal now. Velocity of Thought (2003) represents the cyclical nature of thought and the cyclical nature of consciousness as well as the whirlwind of group thought at this momentous stage of the human condition and social development. The installation Mono Poly Theism's Bombastic Post Mortem and the Neurological Paradigm with Hemispheric Contusions (2002) served to describe the collective thoughts and actions at the turn of the millennium.  Best Step Forward (2005) is our grounded movement forward as we find our equal footing and move ahead with expanded consciousness and awareness. The images of the foot and the shoe both contain mythical, allegorical and archetypal information rooted deep in our being. The shape, form and proportions of the Lotus Link Purse(2007) utilizes the symbolic imagery of the  circle and the square/rectangle seen extensively in the sculpture, architecture and caligrapghy through out the Han Dynasty.  The circle derived to represent heaven and the square/rectangle to represent earth.  Yoga Mat imagery depicts Eternalism-Cosmic Mirror/Lotus Mobile-Magnificient View in the Window of Wakefulness.  http://www.tricycle.com/dharma-talk/heart-essence-buddhist-meditation?page=0,2

From Mineral I became Vegetable from Vegetable I became Animal from Animal I became Man. What I will become you cannot imagine.
Sufi Poem

...But thy eternal summer shall not fade....When in eternal lines to time thou growest...So long as men can breathe or eyes can see so long lives this and this gives life to thee.  Shakespear's Eternal Consciousness
